A Snowy Holiday Evening

Here in our little town the snow is falling….huge BEAUTIFUL flakes. I love how it is stacking up on the furniture, highlighting the branches of our beloved crooked willow that started as just a 2 foot twig 7 years ago!

I thought I would attempt to make a yummy batch of homemade hot cocoa with a drizzle of sweet caramel… …but although it was pretty, it didn’t quite work out, the kids didn’t care for the dark chocolate taste and it didn’t stay blended very well. So if anyone has a great hot cocoa recipe please share it with me.

I love to treasure hunt in 2nd hand stores and I found a couple of great treasures that I added to our holiday decorations this year. A Pottery Barn mercury glass crackled glass ornament still in the box for just $2. It was the perfect addition to our tree this year!

…and this white distressed urn I found at the Farm Chicks show last March and I LOVE it! I think I paid $5 for it. It is perfect to hold some sparkly glittered fruit as a centerpiece for our table. I am excited for this week. Michael is home from college, Jason only has to work on Thursday…and I hope that Kenzi will join me in some last minute shopping as we prepare for Christmas and our much anticipated Christmas Eve celebration!

I {heart} the snow tons! Even the shoveling doesn’t bother me because I just figure it is a work out for the day! The caramel sauce would be divine on hot chocolate! Yum!

For some reason I’m not so grumpy about the snow after reading your post. Thank you Cassandra!

Such pretty decor- (LUV that urn- i need to find myself one) and the glittery sugared fruit and cracked mercury glass are just so yummy and festive! Those snowflakes are huge!!! As far as hot cocoa, I always cheat and start out with Swiss Miss hot cocoa mix and let my girls make their own variations with all sorts of flavored creamers (peppermint and eggnog are some of their faves), whipcream, marshmallows and sprinkles. That is as homemade as it gets around here. :) Personally, I like a little splash of Frangelico Hazelnut Liqueur or Bailey’s Irish Creme in mine for a bit more “adult” style beverage.
